Take my advice! Baisha is the place in Lijiang that's most worth visiting
This is Baisha Ancient Town, located in Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang City, Yunnan Province, 10 kilometers away from Lijiang Ancient Town.
To the north lies the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, to the east is Dadu, to the south is Shuhe, and to the west is Wenhai. It is a place less than half an hour's drive away from the hustle and bustle, where you can find a peaceful retreat as if you're picking chrysanthemums by the eastern fence.
Walking through Baisha Ancient Town is like turning the pages of a vivid and lively historical scroll. The town has not undergone large-scale development and has maintained its quiet and simple charm.
The Baisha Ancient Town, which is open all year round without an admission fee, is suitable for a half-day in-depth visit, and is welcoming in all four seasons, with a unique snow mountain landscape in the cold winter.

Whoever comes to Lijiang should not miss Baisha, or I will be heartbroken! Baisha is worth it
Lijiang has three ancient towns: Lijiang (Dayan) Ancient Town, Shuhe Ancient Town, and Baisha Ancient Town. The most populous and prosperous is Lijiang Ancient Town, but I have a particular fondness for Baisha Ancient Town.
Baisha Ancient Town is the smallest of the three, but it is the one that, in my eyes, has the most Yunnan charm. Last year, I stayed in Lijiang for half a year, visiting Baisha Ancient Town countless times, and finally, as a chronic procrastinator, I have put together this guide:
🚗How to get to Baisha Ancient Town?
1⃣️Self-drive or take a taxi: Navigate to 📍Baisha Ancient Town (there is a parking lot), but be careful not to drive into the narrow and crowded streets of the ancient town; it's very inconvenient;
2⃣️Bus🚌: Depart from Lijiang Ancient Town by bus No. 6 (fare 2 yuan) or the Ancient Town-Shuhe-Baisha line (fare 5 yuan) to get there. It's recommended to check the bus schedule in advance, otherwise, the waiting time can be long.
📃How to enjoy Baisha Ancient Town?
1⃣️Baisha Ancient Town is very small, and you can basically finish touring it in half an hour. It's recommended to go to 7sea or a nearby cafe with a terrace, order a cup of coffee ☕️, and view the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. (Now there are more people than before, and you basically have to queue to take pictures of the snow mountain...)
2⃣️For those who like to walk, you can follow the streets in the direction of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. Occasionally, you will see local grandparents sunbathing by the roadside. My friend and I inadvertently passed by a small shop carving wooden stakes, where you can drink tea and have a meal, quite interesting.
3⃣️On the road from Shuhe to Baisha Ancient Town, every year from March to April, the roadside is filled with various unknown wildflowers, which is very suitable for riding an electric scooter🛵 and enjoying the breeze. Occasionally, you may encounter a grandfather leading an ox, a young man painting, villagers working in the fields... At sunset, the glow, the setting sun, and the snow mountain are intoxicating.
4⃣️Xiaodao Family Coffee, on the road going deeper from Baisha Ancient Town, there is a coffee shop where you can see the snow mountain, slightly away from Baisha Ancient Town, with a sense of 'being uniquely independent from the world'.
5⃣️Baisha Murals: The ticket is 20 yuan per person, and you can deeply understand the Naxi culture. Since some parts are still under renovation, you might not be able to see them, so it's suggested to ask the staff before going.
🍲What to eat in Baisha Ancient Town?
1⃣️Poet's Steamed Buns
Both the flower steamed buns and the brown sugar steamed buns are delicious, even for someone like me who doesn't usually like flour-based food, they have a unique taste~
2⃣️Chef Chen's Baisha Flavor Restaurant
A very local restaurant. The first time I went there, the place was quite small and easy to miss. Later, both the environment and the dishes have improved a lot. I especially recommend their Pu'er tea beef and fish.
3⃣️Naxi Specialty Casserole
Great value for money, the mixed pot dish is 25 yuan per person, with both vegetables and meat, and the flavor is excellent. After eating, it's always memorable. Their fried rice is also very characteristic and highly recommended!

MAYA CONLEY
I prefer this small town under the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain over the ancient city of Lijiang!
Under the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, there is a small town where you can look up and see the snow mountain, it is 'Baisha Ancient Town'.🤩
Compared with the ancient city of Lijiang, which has been commercialized for many years, it is more primitive and still retains a hint of life.😃
📍Address: Baisha Ancient Town, Yulong Naxi Autonomous County, Lijiang.
🚗Transportation:
- 🚗Self-driving or taxi: 30 minutes from the ancient city, 60 minutes from the airport.
- 🚌Bus: Ancient city-Shuhe-Baisha special line, from early eight to late nine, 20 minutes a bus, 5 yuan.
⏰Best time:
- Morning: Few people are quiet, many shops are not open, suitable for taking pictures and sweeping the streets, especially at sunrise.
- Afternoon: The crowd is noisy, the shops are all open, suitable for shopping.
- Evening: Tourists gradually leave, the town returns to quiet, suitable for late-night snacks and strolling.
🛏Accommodation: There are budget and boutique homestays to choose from, it is recommended to stay near the archway, which is in the center, and it is very convenient to watch the sunrise in the morning.
🍱Food recommendation: Yunwei Collection, Naxi Pure Mixed Pot Dishes, Can't Croissant, Mantou Poet, Can Can Puer Fresh Flower Milk Tea.
📷&📱Photo suggestion:
1. 🌌Baisha Ancient Town Archway: Under the archway is an excellent place to watch the sunrise on the Golden Mountain, you can use the composition of people + streets + snow mountains, it is recommended to use the telephoto end of the camera or mobile phone to highlight the grandeur of the snow mountain.
2. 🍵At the entrance of Yunwei Collection: The same, suitable for using telephoto to shorten the distance with the snow mountain.
3. 💒7sea Cafe: The second floor balcony can take a group photo of people + streets + archway + snow mountain, but only in the afternoon when the light is good. *Need to consume, there is only one angle suitable for taking portraits, there are many people in the afternoon need to queue; the angle is better than the neighboring Wattang Coffee.
4. 🥂He Xi Coffee: The second floor terrace is very comfortable to sunbathe and watch the snow mountain, you can take a group photo of the roof and the snow mountain. *Need to consume, not many people, there is face light all day.
5. 🌌Aerial view: The drone overlooks this small town under the snow mountain, with the main street as the guide line, the staggered eaves and the full view of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain are combined, which is more layered.
Come to Baisha Ancient Town to feel its unique charm!😘

BaiSha Ancient Town | This is the "Life of Longing"
BaiSha Ancient Town is located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, about 10km from Dayan Ancient City, about 30 minutes by car, and about 30 yuan by car. You can drive or take a taxi, just locate BaiSha Ancient Town directly, there are parking lots on both sides of the ancient town entrance, which is very convenient.
BaiSha Ancient Town is relatively small, and the shops open relatively late, so there is no need to go too early. It is recommended to go in the afternoon, have a coffee or tea, put down your phone, completely empty, this time is yours.
Travel Guide
1. Snow Mountain View
You can see Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in BaiSha Ancient Town. The recommended viewing cafes are "Hexi", "7sea", and "Yiwatang". Sitting on the second floor and having afternoon tea while watching the snow mountain is very comfortable.
2. Specialty Shops
There are many specialty shops on the cross street of the ancient town. You can buy postcards of Lijiang at the "Chengbei Post Office", there are many interesting vintage knick-knacks at "Zhang San's Shop", "BaiSha Grass Hall" is a literary bar hidden in the alley, and "Bun Poet" can eat rose buns until you are full for 6 yuan.
3. BaiSha Murals
The ticket is 20 yuan. It is said to be one of the four major murals in China. The colored murals from the Ming and Qing Dynasties are stored in the Liuli Palace and Dabaoji Palace, which are worth a look.
4. BaiSha Jinxiu Art Academy
In this ancient courtyard, you can visit the traditional embroidery skills of the Naxi people and the works of Dongba culture. There are Naxi cultural peripherals in the art academy, which can be used as souvenirs.
5. Courtyard in front of the mountain
A treasure tea room unknown to people near BaiSha Ancient Town, like the Lijiang version of Youfeng Xiaoyuan, drinking tea and reading books in the courtyard is very comfortable. You need to make an appointment with the owner in advance.
Food Recommendations:
①Yunwei Collection, their yak meat hot pot is really delicious! Can't forget it after eating;
②Naxi mixed pot dishes, local flavor hot pot is very cost-effective, 25 yuan/person, very delicious

Yunnan First Experience: Baby and Baisha Trip
Hey everyone! This is Sienna’s first big adventure 🌍. Flying from Shanghai to Yunnan, who said traveling with a little baby would be a problem? 👶✈️
First stop, we arrived at Baisha Ancient Town near Lijiang. Well… the weather forecast was indeed right; it’s drizzling here ☔️. But Baisha in the rain has a unique charm, just like an ink painting 🖼️. The three of us were holding umbrellas, and Sienna was curiously looking around from her stroller. She seems very intrigued by this new environment!
One of the most fun parts of the trip was packing for it. Well, traveling with a baby means more luggage 💼😂. Bottles, diapers, toys… can you imagine the hustle and fun we had while packing?
But most importantly, we want to share that traveling can still be a wonderful and unforgettable experience, even with a child. Yes, there will be more challenges, but those unforgettable moments and intimate times with family are priceless 💖.
Remember, exploring new places with family is always worth it! 🌏

Baisha Village - Lijiang's Quaint Old Town
Baisha Village is a traditional Naxi Village. The Old Town was the first settlement of Naxi People upon their arrival in the Lijiang basin and houses the Baisha Murals.
Baisha is located at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain about 10 km from Lijiang city.
This is a lovely quaint village on the edge of Yulong mountain, 30 mins drive from Lijiang, with tasteful craft shops and coffee shops.

Lijiang Ancient Town- A step back in time.
Getting There -
Lijiang ancient town is located roughly 35-40 minutes from Lijiang airport by taxi.
Attractions -
For me, the best thing to do during the day is explore. I enjoyed getting lost and taking photos of the old town. To the north is Shuhe and Baisha ancient towns, which are less touristy and a little quieter. Around the towns are plenty of things to do, such as mountain top shows, the tiger leaping gorge, hiking and a few museums.
Hotels -
There are hotels to suit all budgets. There's an Intercontinental on the edge of town for luxury, or you can spend as little as 50rmb per night for a perfectly comfortable room.
Food & Restaurants -
If you love hot pot, you'll love the selection. There's also a wide variety of street food as well as buffet style restaurants.
Shopping -
If it's silver or leather you want, you'll be spoiled for choice. There are also many shops selling traditional Naxi clothes

Baisha Ancient Town, Lijiang, Yunnan
Location: Lijiang, Yunnan
This is the most impressive ancient town I have been to China. The reason for that might be the experience I had in this impressive ancient town. We went here at the end of July and were lucky enough to witness the Torch festival celebration of local minority Naxi people. They were dancing and we joined them. That was an unforgettable experience.
You will see drawing like patterns on the wall. Those are Naxi people characters. They have their own language and alphabet.
If you stay in a hostel inside the ancient town you most likely will have a view to the Snow mountain.
I would call this town a “wooden ancient town”. Naxi people traditional architecture includes a lot of wood. No wonder in every corner you will see wooden carved doors and windows.
There are small restaurants with yummy food. Don’t miss local rose petal mantos for which you have to wait in a long line but it is worth it trust me!
There are also small cafe shops and bars with live music for you to have a pleasant night life.

Been Swept Into A New World
Baisha Ancient Town is one of the three ancient towns in "Lijiang Ancient City". Each ancient town has different scenery. What I liked the most here is that there are less people, the town is quiet and comfortable. Baisha isn't that big compare to Lijiang Ancient City but its beauty can't be missed. The buildings here are very well-preserved, the shops are also more stylish. It looks so authentic. It takes about an hour and a half to walk around . You can find souvenir shops, restaurants and bistros.
If you wish to take good photos, you should be there in the afternoon around 4:00-6:00.

Amazing Lijiang - Baisha Village
Getting There - Baisha Village is about 8km north of Lijiang Old Town. Local bus runs frequently from the city to the village during the day. It is much quieter because it is not so commercialized (yet) and here, you can appreciate Jade Dragon Snow Mountain right in front of you and experience the Naxi people's peaceful daily life.
Highlight - Wandering around the Baisha Village, you can enjoy the slow lifestyle of the Naxi People and their friendly smiling faces. I personally like Baisha way more than Lijiang Old Town as the village is much less visited by tourists and hence more local and tranquil.
Here you can freely roam around the countryside and enter various courtyards to see the man-made tie-dye artwork hanging for sale or drying in the sun.
As the village becomes more well known among travelers, make sure to check it out before it gets too crowded.

A step back into time!
Baisha is an ancient Naxi town on the tea horse route. It's a mini version of Lijiang. it's very retro and has so many cool bars and cafes. it's not cheap though, a coffee costs about 45rmb. There are amazing views of the mountains You can see Naxi people play traditional music and there are lots of beautiful murals on the wall. You can also buy tie dyed clothes which are beautiful. I will stay here next time, rather than Lijiang. #wintergetaway

Baisha Ancient Town(白沙古镇)
Baisha Ancient Town, about 10km away from Lijiang Old Town, is the oldest town in the 3 towns of Lijiang.
It's famous for its Sifangjie, which was also origin of Suhe Old Town and Lijiang Old Town. I like this Baisha Ancient Town. On one hand, it's still very original, not too commercialized, and the viligers are still living there, and not too many visitors. Some we can still have a chance to get to know their lifestyle. On the other hand, it's so closed to the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain. It feels like the snow mountain is the guide for the old town. Quite a chilled place.
But nowadays, more and more mordern shops, hostels are coming into the area. So better go for a visit before it becomes too commercialized.

You must visit the ancient town of Baisha in Yunnan with your loved one to feel the charm of the distance
Baisha Ancient Town is a tranquil place, free from the rat race of the city, with Naxi-style architecture that gives the town its unique character. Here are some travel tips:
1️⃣ Photography: The ancient archway with the big characters for 'Baisha' is a must-photograph spot. You can order a cup of coffee at the café next to the archway, and take a photo from the second-floor balcony, perfectly capturing the person, the archway, and the snow mountain in one frame.
2️⃣ Dining: Recommended places include Buni Coffee, 7sea bar, Baisha Flavor Restaurant, Lucky's Home, and Chicken Bean Jelly Shop. You must try the rose-flavored big steamed buns from Poet's Mantou.
3️⃣ Accommodation: Recommended is Qingpu Cultural Guesthouse·Lijiang Baisha, which has excellent facilities. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, and you can stroll directly into the ancient town. On clear days, you can see the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain from the guesthouse. Staying at the guesthouse, you can experience various traditional cultural activities: Dongba tie-dyeing, copper beating, mushroom picking, and making Tibetan incense, etc.
4️⃣ Three-day two-night itinerary:
• day1: Check into the guesthouse — spend the afternoon at a café — watch the snow mountain sunset in the ancient town — have hotpot back at the guesthouse in the evening
• day2: Drive to Yuhu Village in the morning for photos — have lunch in Yuhu Village — visit the free Pearl Lake at the foot of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain in the afternoon to watch the sunset — return to Baisha Ancient Town for dinner at Baisha Flavor Restaurant in the evening
• day3: Sleep in — let the guesthouse arrange for a tie-dyeing or copper beating experience, which is conveniently located in the ancient town. If the season is right, you can also try mushroom picking — spend the afternoon at Lucky's Home sunbathing, drinking coffee, and petting dogs.

🇨🇳 Visiting 白沙古镇 (Baisha Ancient Town), Lijiang
#chinatrip
Nestled in the picturesque region of Lijiang, 白沙古镇 (Baisha Ancient Town) offers a glimpse into a bygone era, featuring well-preserved architecture and a rich tapestry of Naxi culture. As one of the oldest settlements in the area, Baisha is less commercialized compared to its counterparts, offering a more authentic experience of the local heritage and lifestyle.
A highlight of visiting Baisha is the opportunity to relax at one of its charming cafes, where you can enjoy a refreshing drink with the majestic Yulong Snow Mountain serving as a breathtaking backdrop. These cafes, often quaint and artistically decorated, provide the perfect setting to soak in the serene atmosphere and the stunning natural beauty surrounding the town. You should always make a trip to Lijiang, and stay in a guesthouse under the snow mountain
📍Attraction Address: Baisha Old Town, Shuhe Old Town, Dayan Old Town (Lijiang Ancient Town)
🏝️Booking Strategy: Book your guesthouse in advance before coming. If you like lively places and taking photos, you can stay in Dayan Old Town, because it's inside Lijiang Ancient Town. The big waterwheel, Sakura Restaurant, and Bar Street in the ancient town are very popular among young people. If you are staying overnight, it is not recommended to stay inside the ancient town due to the cobblestone roads, which are inconvenient if you have luggage. You can stay in hotels outside the ancient town. If you prefer quietness, you can stay in Shuhe Old Town. Shuhe has many Naxi people, and the commercial atmosphere is not strong, offering a unique charm. The 'Youth Travel Notes' was filmed at the Wonderland Alice Hotel, including the nearby Zhuxi Cafe and the Ruins Restaurant. The dining and accommodation here are relatively cheap. If you are traveling as a couple, you can stay in a guesthouse under the snow mountain in Baisha Old Town, which is very photogenic. Baisha Old Town combines the commercialization of Lijiang Ancient Town with the guesthouse features of Shuhe Old Town. Because it's a guesthouse under the snow mountain, the price is relatively expensive. If you are on a tight budget, you can stay in Shuhe Old Town. Taking a taxi from these two places costs only about a dozen yuan.
🚗Transportation Strategy: You can take a taxi or bus from Lijiang Station, depending on your preference.

An impromptu trip to Baisha Ancient Town
Because of work, I went to Heqing and found that Heqing is quite close to Lijiang, so I took the opportunity to play in Lijiang for two days. On the first day, I casually strolled around the Dayan Ancient Town of Lijiang. As someone from Yunnan, whether it's Dali Ancient Town, Lijiang Ancient Town, or the ancient town of Shangri-La, I've become numb to them. On the second day, I checked out the nearby Shuhe Ancient Town (which I had visited before, and I assume it has become as commercialized as Lijiang by now), and Baisha Ancient Town. I had heard about it from a friend before, and it's probably a newly developed attraction now, so I thought of going for a visit.
Transportation: You can take a taxi from anywhere in Lijiang city, and it takes about 30-40 minutes to get there. The taxi fare is also about 30-40 yuan.
Admission: There is no entrance fee for Baisha Ancient Town, but if you want to see the Baisha Murals, you need to buy a ticket for 20 yuan per person.
Specialty food: Yak meat skewers, smoked pork rib hotpot, etc.
Snacks: Personally, I think the 'Mu Zi Skewers' at the entrance taste good, with large skewers for 8 yuan, beef tenderloin for 4 yuan, small skewers for 5 yuan, freshly cut yak meat skewered and sold on the spot. There's also the 'Mantou Poet' downstairs in the writing Baisha, a poet who writes poetry while making steamed buns, making a living here. (His collection of poems is also for sale)
Restaurants: After looking at several restaurants, I finally chose to eat the local specialty 'Grandma's Love Smoked Pork Rib Hotpot'. I personally think it's quite good. The smoked pork rib hotpots I had elsewhere were quite salty, and the meat had a bit of a stale taste, but this one didn't have that feeling, and the dishes were quite fresh. Most importantly, the service was very thoughtful, and the small courtyard environment was also nice.
Attractions: Finally, I went to see the Baisha Murals, with a ticket price of 20 yuan per person. After entering, the environment was very serene, with buildings from the Ming and Qing dynasties. Wenchang Pavilion is a small museum of Naxi culture in Baisha and even the whole Naxi community, where you can learn about the migration, transformation, and development of the Naxi people from ancient times to the present. The Dabaoji Palace and Liuli Hall contain the existing Baisha Murals, which date back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. The murals mainly depict Buddhist figures, and some of the murals' facial expressions are no longer clear. To protect the murals, photography is not allowed. It is said that the 55 existing murals in Lijiang are distributed in four temples: Dabaoji Palace, Liuli Hall, Dading Pavilion, and the Dajue Palace in Shuhe. Today, I was fortunate to see them.
Additionally, there is a 500-year-old cypress willow at the entrance of Dabaoji Palace, which is the plant that the Bodhisattva Guanyin holds in the jade bottle. This season is just the peak of its blooming period, and it's very beautiful.
Baisha Ancient Town is the ancient capital of the Naxi people, once the center of Naxi politics, economy, trade, and culture in Lijiang. It is the birthplace of the Mu family's regime, the Lijiang chieftains. This town is the most representative of the Naxi heritage and is the most original Naxi village.
🏔️ Baisha Ancient Town
Compared to the bustling Lijiang Ancient Town and the quiet Shuhe Ancient Town, I prefer Baisha Ancient Town, a village under the snow mountain🏔️, which is also a utopia in the hearts of young people. Here, you can get close to the snow mountain, with photo opportunities galore, and the town is filled with the daily life and culture of the Naxi people.
🏔️ Wenhai Village
A 40-minute drive on mountain roads from Baisha Ancient Town takes you to the other side of the snow mountain. This place boasts pristine natural scenery, tranquil villages, mysterious lakes, and herds of cattle, horses, and sheep that can be seen everywhere, as if you've entered a secluded paradise deep in the snow mountain.
🏔️ Dongba Valley
Located at the foot of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain🏔️, you can witness the 'Golden Mountain' illuminated by the sunrise⛰️. We set off from Baisha Ancient Town early in the morning, and after more than 20 minutes, we arrived at a natural lake where you can see the complete reflection of the 'Golden Mountain', offering a healing and romantic experience.
🏔️ Black Dragon Pool
One of Lijiang's 4A scenic spots, upon entering, you can see a crystal-clear pool. The place is interestingly juxtaposed with classical architecture by the mountain and water, and the view of the 'Golden Mountain' illuminated by the sun🌞⛰️ here is unparalleled, right next to Lijiang Ancient Town.
🏔️ Lijiang Ancient Town
Lijiang Ancient Town is a national 5A scenic area. Walking here, you can see stone bridges, ancient trees, and streams everywhere, forming a unique waterside landscape. Be sure to slow down and feel the lively atmosphere of the old town, with romantic vibes emanating from places like Zhongyi Alley, Mugu Building, and Sifang Street.
⛰️ Longnu Lake
You can also see the 'Golden Mountain' illuminated by the sunrise⛰️ here, right next to Yuhu Village. Horse riding🐴, blue sky, snow mountain🏔️, lake, grass🌿 meadows, cattle🐮, sheep🐏, and the solitary tree🌲, with a gentle breeze and the sun🌞 shining brightly, the lake surface sparkles with stars⭐, serene and beautiful.
⛰️ Shuhe Ancient Town
One of the settlements of the Naxi ancestors in the Lijiang basin, this place is nestled against the mountain⛰️ and by the water, with an ancient charm, quiet and peaceful environment, and relatively fewer tourists. It's a hidden ancient village away from the hustle and bustle, where you can experience a slow-paced life.
🏔️ Qingxi Reservoir
A beautiful spot with few people, very close to the ancient town. On a clear day, you can see the reflection of the Jade Dragon Snow Mountain🏔️. If you're not in a hurry when visiting Lijiang, you can go here for a look, and it's free.
